Trivia
Because of extensive last-minute streamlining by producer Jerry Wald, this may have been the only Academy Awards Ceremony to actually end earlier then scheduled, by almost twenty minutes. As co-host Jerry Lewis and several other celebrities gallantly tried everything they could to improvise and fill the extra time, NBC cut the broadcast short to air a short film about target shooting until the next scheduled program aired, which in most cases was the local news.

This is the shortest televised Academy Awards ceremony with a running time of one hour and forty minutes.
