Mel Gibson was the surprise - to the audience - Award presenter. He was specifically chosen by Robert Downey Jr. He recalled hiring Downey for 1990's Air America and being warned that the actor might have some personal issues; meeting him, and then deciding, "Nah, he's OK." He paused and said, "Mind you, you have to remember the person making the judgment."

Garry Shandling, Mel Gibson and Jamie Foxx appeared in an 8 minute opening film "brainstorming" (without success) what they could do at the event. Jeff Roe directed and edited the film, which was shot at Rogers & Cowans offices courtesy of their - and Robert Downey Jr's PR Agent Alan Nierob.

Robert Downey Jr did not know that his wife Susan would speak.
