During filming one of the night scenes, John Belushi disappeared and could not be located. Dan Aykroyd looked around and saw a single house with its lights on. He went to the house and was prepared to identify himself, the movie and that they were looking for John Belushi. But before he could, the homeowner looked at him, smiled and said, "You're here for John Belushi, aren't you?" The homeowner then told them Belushi had entered their house, asked if he could have a glass of milk and a sandwich and then crashed on their couch. Situations like this prompted Aykroyd to affectionately dub Belushi "America's Guest".

Goofs
Ray's Music Exchange is clearly located in the city of Chicago, with an elevated train platform in the street during the "Shake a Tail Feather" dance number (the location is actually Shelly's Loan and Jewelry at 300 E. 47th St.). Yet the Brothers ask the Clarion Records president to pay part of their advance to "Ray's Music Exchange in Calumet City," which has no el service.

When the police catch up to Elwood and Jake at Daley Plaza, at least one tank, an M4A4 Sherman, shows up, likely of the Illinois Army National Guard. While state militias did not get the newest equipment (the Ohio Army National Guard was still using M1 Garands in 1970, and as late as 2000 the Kentucky Army National Guard was still issuing M3 Grease Guns to tank crews), the Illinois National Guard would not be so badly out of date that it was still using Shermans in 1979, as the last North American unit to use M4 Shermans was the Ontario Regiment, RCAC, in 1971. By 1979, regular units were armed with M60A3 tanks, with reserve units such as the Illinois State Army National Guard using M48A5 Pattons.

As Elwood and Jake spin through an intersection in the first chase scene, the background momentarily rotates in the wrong direction.

Q
Is it true that Jake and Elwood are not related?
A
Yes. To provide further information on the characters' backgrounds and of the Blues Brothers universe, a book called "Blues Brothers: Private" was released in 1980. It was written by Dan Aykroyd and Judith Belushi-Pisano (wife, now widow, of John Belushi). The book contains these following facts: Jake was born "Jacob Papageorge" to Artesia Papageorge, a woman imprisoned for murdering her husband. She died in childbirth. Elwood was abandoned at a newsstand when he was a baby. When he was brought to the orphanage, The Penguin named him after the police officer that found him: "Elwood Delaney". As Jake and Elwood became good friends growing up in the orphanage, they took the name "Blues" and became blood brothers when they cut themselves with a guitar string and inserted each others' blood.
