Trivia
The town that is shown in Hallgrim's flashbacks is actually a fishing town located on a island just on the south coast of Iceland. The island, Vestman-Island, is also shown a great part in season 2.

The actors spent time at Denmark's police academy before filming began, learning about investigation techniques as well as training abilities to act like real police officers in action scenes.

David Owe's part was originally meant for a "classic", overweight, chainsmoking, coca cola-drinking geek, but after his audition the part was rewritten to fit him.

Goofs
In the first episode, the crime scheme is compromised by plot holes. The plan seems to depend on a risky diversion which in fact attracts the attention of the police to the crime scene rather than the opposite. It is also not explained why Sandberg, who is wanted by the police, would choose to land his plane in a place where he is sure to be arrested, and the whole criminal plan comes to depend on how he fares in court.

There are several instances in the series where technology becomes the issue of questionable plot devices. One clear-cut plot hole is when, in the fourth episode, we see Sergej track Hallgrim second-by-second on a computer screen using a transmitting device. Later we are told that the transmitter is of a type which only sends a signal every twenty minutes which enables the cops to remove the transmitter and copy its chip without Sergej noticing.

Literary reference - Season 1, Episode 5 (Codename: Ares: Part I)
A
Poem by Tom Kristensen quoted by Sergej and Hallgrim as Sergei awaits death in hospital -"But my fear must be redeemed in longing / In visions of fear and distress / I have longed for shipwrecks / For vandalism and sudden death / . . . I have longed for burning cities, people fleeing / World-spanning exodus and divine punishment."...probably from one of his books of poetry (see below link) or novels.More here: http://scandinavian_literature.enacademic.com/163/Kristensen,_Tom
