In the theatrical poster there's also a reference to "Burning Giraffe", by Salvador Dali, with the burning chariot at the right of the poster.

The cinematic poster for this movie is based on the Salvador Dali painting, "1935_03_Face of Mae West Which May Be Used as an Apartment", circa 1935.

Darwin's monkey "Wallace" is a reference to the naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace who independently developed the idea of natural selection. Darwin and Wallace presented the theory together, but due to the publication of "On the Origin of Species" Darwin usually gets sole credit for the theory. The scene on Butterfly Island when Darwin closes Wallace in the sack and says " we.... I have an idea" alludes to him taking sole credit for ideas that were not completely his own.

When Roy is telling Alexandria about being a movie stunt man, during one shot, Roy's head is up, but in the subsequent shot, his head is back, leaning against the backboard.

When the doctor holds the X-ray it bends like a sheet of plastic, but when Roy throws it, it makes the sound of breaking glass like a 1920s X-ray would.

When Alexandria brings Roy the communion wafer she takes a big bite leaving nothing but a sliver left but in the next shot she offers the rest to Ron and it is much bigger than it was when she took a bite.

Alexandria: Make them kiss.

Roy Walker: [to Alexandria] We're a strange pair, aren't we?

Roy Walker: You should ask someone else. There's no happy ending with me.
