Bradley Whitford had previously worked with Diana Maria Riva on eight episodes apiece of The West Wing (1999) and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (2006), and with Colin Hanks' father Tom Hanks in Philadelphia (1993).

One of its working titles of "Code 58" was based on old Dallas Police radio code for routine investigations before the department switched to plain-English radio communications.

Establishing shots of the precinct identify it as being the Southeast substation in the 17000 block of Commerce Street in Dallas, which actually ends in the 3400s. Further, Commerce Street falls within the Dallas PD's Central division, which is headquartered two blocks north of Commerce Street on Hall Street, while the Southeast division is headquartered several miles away on Jim Miller Road.
