Goofs
All of the events attributed to "October 19" could not have happened on the same day. Madame D was murdered in the early hours of Oct. 19, but M. Gustave arrived "24 hours later". It is still Oct. 19 after quite a bit happens, and he leaves.

When deputy Kovacs is trying to escape Jopling, he boards a bus and draws the shade down, revealing the reflection of Jopling on his motorcycle. When Kovacs raises the shade, the bike is still reflected, but when the bus begins to move forward, the reflection of the parked bike moves along at the same speed of the bus. It should remain in one place while the bus moves out of the frame.

In one elevator scene, the operator holds the control handle in the middle, which is "Stop", and the elevator rises. In the next elevator scene the control is all the way forward, which is "Up."

M. Gustave: [interviewing will walking] Experience?

M. Gustave: I must say, I find that girl utterly delightful. Flat as a board, enormous birthmark the shape of Mexico over half her face, sweating for hours on end in that sweltering kitchen, while Mendl, genius though he is, looms over her like a hulking gorilla. Yet without question, without fail, always and invariably, she's exceedingly lovely.

Q
Was the erotic painting that replaces "Boy with Apple" painted just for the movie?
A
Yes, it was. Director Wes Anderson ordered an Egon Schiele-style painting that needed to feature "Two Lesbians Masturbating". Artist Rich Pellegrino created seven versions and Anderson chose one.
