Trivia
Was originally meant to be a musical. Pete Townshend and Des McAnuff developed it as a stage musical, using songs from Pete Townshend's concept album "The Iron Man" (much like the stage version of The Who's Tommy (1975)). Des McAnuff decided it would work better as an animated feature and pitched it to Warner Bros.

In order to better blend the computer-generated Giant into the traditionally animated film, technicians came up with a program that gave the Giant's lines a slight "wobble", in order to match the natural line imperfections found in hand-drawn animation.

Goofs
When Hogarth first meets Dean in the Diner, the newspaper ad is "Moon Explorer". When Hogarth pulls the paper down the ad has changed to "First Lady".

When Annie's pickup is stopped by the soldiers, Dean says they need to get Hogarth to a hospital. At this point, Hogarth is still in the pickup. In the next shot, barely a few seconds later, he is already halfway down the street. Considering the speed he was running, he could not have got that far down the street in that amount of time.

A scene midway through the movie reveals a sign on the side of Dean's tow truck that reads "McCoppin Scrap". The end credits offer us an alternate spelling: Dean McCoppen.

Q
Are there other Iron Giants besides the one featured in the movie?
A
Yes, in a deleted story board scene hints that the Iron Giant isn't the only one of its kind. When the Giant starts to sleep, his "dream" is transmitted to Dean's TV which shows brief footage of other Iron Giants.
