With the movie being filmed in Australia, virtually all of the young men playing prospective Aggie football players were Australian. Therefore, all of the Texas accents - as convincing as they might've been - were indeed fake.

Gene Stallings, a Junction Boy who later went on to coach at Texas A&M, in the NFL with with the St. Louis (now Arizona) Cardinals and then at Alabama, disputed the way both "The Junction Boys" book and movie portrayed Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant. In a September 2006 interview with Tuscaloosa Magazine, Stallings had this to say: "Junction, Texas, was tough, but I didn't like the way the book...and movie portrayed Coach Bryant. He wasn't brutal; he was tough. That's a big difference. He wanted to bring us together, away from distractions, unite the team."

During one of the practice scenes at Junction, a current-day, padded belt designed to protect the ribs can be seen underneath a players' jersey. This piece of football equipment was not available in 1954.

A sign reads "Texas A&M University". Texas A&M did not become a "university" until 1962. In the 1950s, it was called "Texas A&M College."

Pine: [to Gearhart] Hey, me and some of the other fellas heard you tellin' off Smokey Harper. Not real smart, Gearheart. But what you said, you said for a lot of us.

Bear Bryant: [Johnny Haynes gets knocked over] No, no, no! Haynes, you rinky-dink! Get up!

Bear Bryant: I don't care who your daddy is. I don't care what kind of All-Conference bullshit you were in high school. I don't care what the last coach promised you. Y'all been fartin' up wind too long.
