As a long-running successful series, the show was growing more expensive each year with slowly declining ratings. After extensive negotiations, an abbreviated final season was agreed upon by the network and producers.

ACarrie's sister Sara Spooner, was a character they decided to cut, and was last seen in the episode "Head First" in season 1, episode 6. Sara was never mentioned again and after her cut, Carrie was an only child for the future of the show.
