To go out with a bang in the third season, the producers spread the word that one of five different leading characters would die in the last episode of the season. Rumors spread that they had actually shot all five deaths to avoid exposure of the truth about which character was dying. Whether or not all five death scenes were shot or not was never confirmed. However, Mischa Barton revealed it was her character that died on Access Hollywood an hour before the episode aired.

Goofs

In Season 3, when Ryan was seeing Sadie and was unsure about asking Marisa to come to his birthday party, the calendar on the Cooper's wall had the number 19 circled as Ryan's birthday and the next day was indicated as the first day of Spring which would be in March. In the last season, Ryan is perusing a scrapbook put together by Taylor, which had included their hospital bracelets from when they both were in a coma. Ryan's bracelet showed the date 09-05-86.

In Season 3, when Ryan is with Sadie in the pool house, Seth finds the door locked when he tries to enter and states "when did this door ever have a lock." Ryan mentions he added it for privacy. In Season 1, when Hailey has the huge New Years party, she locks Ryan and Seth in the pool house, so they won't spoil her fun.

How old is Kaitlin?

Kaitin's age is a subject of dispute, as in Season 1, Seth states she is in Grade 5, which, by the time of Season 3, would make her 12. However it is stated in Season 3 that she is 14 turning 15, and that she was 12 the last time we saw her in Season 1, Which means she was entering the 7th grade in the beginning of the first season and in season 3 is in the 9th. She has last stated in the fourth season that she is fifteen, although she should have been sixteen as she celebrated her 15th birthday in January 2006, according to the episode The Pot Stirrer.
