Throughout filming, the cast stayed together in a house nearby in upstate New York. However, for the first few days of filming, director Susan Hunt had Solomon Shiv stay in a house by himself to isolate him from the rest of the cast until he began filming. Both agreed it would help him feel more like the outsider Osborne Fergus. During those days, he would chop wood as Osborne Fergus's house.

The film was shot in 13 days, with a highly efficient shooting schedule designed by Susan Hunt and assistant director, Eric "Frenchi" LaFranchi during pre-production. The last day of filming even included re-shoots of the balcony scene.

Brian J. Coffey and Dan Truman, who play partners in the film, are real-life neighbors.
