Trivia
The low-budget film was shot in an actual house that the crew had rented out for the duration of filming. Holly Hunter (Melanie) was amazed to see that the water worked. Brady Corbet (Mason) only lived about a block away from the house so he was able to walk to shooting.

During the belly piercing scene, Tracy says "What the fuck did you do" that was not scripted because Nikki Reed had actually poked the top of Evan Rachel Wood's belly with the needle. She still has the scar to prove it.

Although the girls are seen smoking, the cigarettes were made mostly with catnip. The crushed pills they are shown snorting from the cover of a children's book were harmless dietary supplements.

When Evie and Tracy are getting out of the car at Melrose, the same girl in a yellow tank top walks by in each shot. Once when they are still in the car, and once when they are walking away from the car.

Q
What song is playing when Tracy steals the bag off the lady and shows Evie?
A
It's called 'Super Bad Girl' by Iffy. The rest of the songs and their corresponding scenes can be found here.
Q
Is this an autobiography of Nikki Reed's life at 13?
A
It is a combination of fact and fiction. It seems that there were situations that were perhaps dramatized a bit for the screen, to help move the story along, and also situations that were true. By the age of 12, she became rebellious and experimented with sex, drugs, and alcohol.By 14 (post-film), she became emancipated and moved out of her mothers house to live on her own. Since then, she has recovered and had a successful career in Hollywood. However, Nikki Reed has stated in interviews since then that this information is false. According to her, the marketing scheme was that it was autobiographical, but in fact it was not. She was influenced by her management to say it was based on fact, but she has never taken drugs and she didn't drink or have sex at that age. She does admit to being "nasty" to her mother and self-harming, so it was loosely based on her life, with major differences.
Q
Did Nikki Reed write this herself?
A
She co-wrote it with Catherine Hardwicke, the director of the movie. They wrote the screenplay in 6 days.
