AThe Lost Treasure is the second movie in the Disney Fairies franchise, preceded by Tinker Bell (2008) and followed by Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue (2010), Secret of the Wings (2012), and The Pirate Fairy (2014). However, the character of Tinker Bell was first introduced in the 1904 play, Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up and again in the 1911 novel, Wendy and Peter, both by Scottish author, Sir James Barrie. Disney first introduced their version of Tinker Bell to the movie screen in their 1953 animated movie, Peter Pan. Since then, Tinker Bell has appeared as a leading character in numerous recent videos, illustrated books, and a magazine. The screenplay for Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure was written by Evan Spiliotopoulos. A sequel, Tinker Bell and the Legend of the NeverBeast, is slated for release in 2014.
ATinker Bell is asked by Queen Clarion to create an autumn scepter for the mystical moonstone which, every eight years during the blue harvest moon in Pixie Hollow, creates blue-colored pixie dust to strengthen and rejuvenate the pixie dust tree. When Tink and her dust fairy friend Terence accidentally break the moonstone, Tink sets out in a balloon to find the Enchanted Mirror of Incanta, a magic mirror that has the ability to grant her fondest wish...to restore the shattered moonstone.
