Trivia
The scenes that take place in the White House were shot on the set of the television series The West Wing (1999), which is a near-exact replica (albeit wider, to allow for free movement of the cameras) of the actual interiors of the White House's West Wing.

When a critic commented that it seemed unrealistic that the daughter's high school record was almost perfect when she was taking drugs, screenwriter Stephen Gaghan pointed out that the high school record in the movie was his and that he had been abusing drugs at the time.

Goofs
During the woman's speech in the courtroom, you can clearly see the microphone switch to be in the off position.

When Javier Rodriguez Rodriguez and his partner are stopped by General Salazar's men in the opening sequence, Javier holds his hands against the steering wheel in a "surrender" position. As the scene plays out, his hands are alternately in the air or on the steering wheel.

When Arnie Metzger shows up at Helena Ayala's house, at one point he quickly turns around and points to her. Clearly his mouth movements do not match up with the dialog.

Q
What is it that Gordon attatches to the table in the Ayala's house towards the end of the film?
A
A small microphone. A "bug". The movie offers a small glimmer of hope that the investigation might continue, even after all the previous tragedy. However, given the scene in which the Ayala's lawyer says he sweeps his office for bugs twice a day, there is little chance that the microphone will be there long enough to gather any useful information.
Q
What is it that Gordon attatches to the table in the Ayala's house towards the end of the film?
A
But the lawyer (Dennis Quaid) is not alive anymore, and sweeping his office twice a day for bugs doesn't mean Carlos's house is swept. Bug will work.
