When Robert Downey Jr. was arrested for drug possession, writer/director James Toback vowed to be the first to offer Downey a job once he got out of rehab. Toback wrote the screenplay in four days with Robert Downey Jr. in mind.

In the beginning when Carol starts walking away, she says "godverdomme", which is Dutch for "goddamn".

Blake flies into New York City on American Airlines flight 11 (see also trivia) but this flight was from Boston to Los Angeles.

When the trio are gathered around the tub, Blake puts his hands on his face. They appear to change positions in the next shot because of the mirror behind Blake and to the right of Lou.

The liquor bottle refills in one shot just before Blake returns.

Blake Allen: I'm short now, huh? I'm like 5/10!

Blake Allen: Carla, Carla...

Blake Allen: Do you want the truth?
