Whole budget of the movie was 12lakhs INR including building of house. Upon release, the film made a profit around 72lakhs INR. Thus, it was critically acclaimed and also financially successful movie.

Cinematographer Cheziyan says Veedu is one of the greatest film ever made in kollywood. He compares the movie with Pianist, Children of Heaven, Cinema Paradiso, Road Home.

Balu Mahendra used Ilayaraja's "How to name it" album as the original score of this movie. After finishing the film he he told to Ilayaraja "It has a name now. It's Veedu film music.
