Although it was executive produced by 'Matty Simmmons', it was the only "Vacation" movie series (starring Chevy Chase) not to feature 'National Lampoon's' in its title. It would take another six years for the direct to DVD spin-off film "Christmas Vacation 2" to be released and be credited as "National Lampoon's."

Clark's line, "It's all part of the act Rusty," is a reference to the Dodge City bar scene in National Lampoon's National Lampoon's Vacation (1983).

Q
How many National Lampoon Vacation movies are there?
A
There are five. Vegas Vacation was preceded by Vacation (1983), European Vacation (1985), Christmas Vacation (1989) and Vegas Vacation (1997), and followed by the 14-minute video short Hotel Hell Vacation (2010). A sixth Christmas Vacation 2: Cousin Eddie's Island Adventure (2003) aired on NBC but only features Randy Quaid as Cousin Eddie.
Q
Is 'Vegas Vacation' based on a book?
A
Vegas Vacation is the fourth movie in the Griswold series, preceded by Vacation (1983), European Vacation (1985), and Christmas Vacation (1989). The series is based on a short story, 'Vacation '58', by American screenwriter John Hughes that appeared in National Lampoon Magazine. All of them feature Chevy Chase as Clark 'Sparky' Griswold and Beverly D'Angelo as his wife, Ellen.
