While doing volunteer work at the Lighthouse for the Blind, Sassone met an elderly blind woman, "Sonora Carver", who, in her youth in the 1920s, was the diving horse girl at the Steel Pier in Atlantic City. Her story became his inspiration for writing the beloved Disney film, Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken (1991).
Mentored with Academy Award Winning Cinematographer Sven Nykvist at the Swedish Film Institute.
Played guitar in a punk band.
Was nominated for an MTV Music Video Award for directing Mr. Mister's "Broken Wings"
