Trivia
When David and Gigolo Joe are journeying through the woods, they mention Haddonfield, New Jersey, where Steven Spielberg lived for several years as a child.

For the last seven minutes of A.I. the composer John Williams wrote a piano concerto, and it went over the length of the film. Steven Spielberg stopped the projector and told Williams to just let the music continue. Spielberg along with his editor Michael Kahn then re-edited the last seven minutes of movie into Williams' piano concerto. Spielberg did a similar thing years before E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), where he and Carol Littleton edited the last 15 minutes into Williams' music.

When Dr. Hobby removes the CPU from mecha Sheila's forehead, the module is about as big as a walnut. But when he holds the module up to show to his colleagues, it is a cube about the size of a billiard ball.

Quotes
Monica: I can't accept this! There is no substitute for you own child!

Gigolo Joe: There are girls your age that are just like me. We are the guiltless pleasures of the lonely human being. You won't get us pregnant or have us to supper with mommy and daddy. We work under you, we work on you and we work for you. Man made us better at what we do than was ever humanly possible.

David: I like your floor.

Q
What kind of creatures are those things in the ending?
A
When the film first came out, it was assumed that the beings seen after David and Teddy have been frozen were aliens. They are actually future mechas that have evolved to their current state and appearance, seeming to fulfill Gigolo Joe's words that when the end came, mechas would still survive after human beings had died out ("They made us too smart, too quick, and too many. We are suffering for the mistakes they made because when the end comes, all that will be left is us."). This becomes obvious when watching the film a second time, since the voice of the chief mecha is the same voice in the beginning - the actor Ben Kingsley. The future mechas, much like human beings, are in a search for information regarding their past, which is why David is such a perfect specimen for them to find, given he lived among humans and his mind is filled with their interactions.
Q
What character did Meryl Streep play?
A
Meryl Streep provides the voice of Blue Fairy. The credits (and so, the IMDb also) identify her as Blue Mecha, but that's not correct.
