Trivia
According to the DVD commentary, effects artists Alec Gillis and Tom Woodruff Jr. mention that they originally had an effects sequence that would've shown us the Predator actually skinning the body of Deputy Ray Adams. But the idea was dropped when Fox Studios that is was deemed "too horrific".

This is the first time in the franchise that a Chestburster emerges from a child.

At the cemetery sequence, the man with a gun stands in front of a tombstone with the name "HAWKINS" on it. Hawkins was one of the soldiers of Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger) on the first Predator (1987) movie, played by Shane Black, today a screenwriter (Lethal Weapon franchise) and director (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005)).

Goofs
In addition to the fact that the unit and flag patches are reversed on Kelly's uniform, the flag patches seen by the National Guard troops are backwards (and still on the incorrect shoulder).

Ricky gets stabbed through the shoulder by the pred-alien in the hospital and later uses his injured arm several times in a way that would be pretty much impossible after suffering such a major wound in that location, not just because of the incapacitating pain but because of the gaping hole he'd have where some of the necessary muscles would be.

When the helicopter is riding the shock wave of the blast, the horizon indicator is shown spinning. This would only be possible if it were performing a barrel roll, which, not only is it not being shown as doing, but is impossible for a helicopter to perform.

Q
Was the control chair the Lead Predator sat in on the Predator Planet the same type on the crashed alien ship in Alien on LV-426?
A
No. Neither the creatures nor the ships look alike, not to mention the concept of Predators did not exist back when Alien was made. In terms of the storyline, it is unknown how the Predators first found the Aliens. AVP 1 shows that they found them thousands of years ago, so it's possible that the Predators found the Aliens the same way the crew from the Nostromo did and that they may have duplicated the chair from the ship's design. Also, the Predator chair was simply meant as a hommage to the Space Jockey from the original Alien. Aside from a chair and a piece of overhead equipment, the two look quite different, so it is probably just a coincidental parallel development in the technology of both species.
Q
Who is Ms. Yutani and what is the significance of her character?
A
The infamous "Company" referred to throughout the previous Alien movies is called Weyland-Yutani. We can assume from what we see of her that she is the CEO, or some other high up person, of this company. Her presence represents the foreshadowing of the future control, involvement, and power her company will have in the Alien/Predator universe. The first AVP movie included Charles Bishop Weyland, the CEO of the then Weyland company. They most likely merged in later years, finalizing the merger in 2030 ('Predator: Concrete Jungle').
Q
How did critics react to the film?
A
AVP: R recieved even weaker reviews than the intial AVP which was also panned. It has a 14% approval rate at Rotten Tomatoes and scores a lowly 29/100 at Metacritic. Also at 4.7 stars out of 10, it is also by far the lowest rated Alien and/or Predator movie on IMDb. By contrast, Alien and Aliens are rated 8.5/10 and rank on the IMDb Top 250, while Predator ranks a 7.7/10.Critical quotes:The Good:"easily the best sequel in either franchise since James Cameron's Aliens, and the only Predator outing besides the original worth the film stock it's shot on." DVD Verdict, 2008"Provides enough cheap thrills and modest suspense" Variety, 2007The Bad:"Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem is a B movie that truly earns its B." Entertainment weekly, 2007"A smidge too shaky and the lighting/color design too dark for me to relish the Predator-on-Alien butt-kicking" Stina Chyn - Film ThreatThe Ugly:"Simply put, AVPR is trash. It should be burned with the rest of the garbage that accumulates on Christmas Day. " James Berardinelli, 2007"Fans deserve better" BBCi film review, 2008"The world's most illogical and boring action-horror grudge-match" The Guardian, 2008"An early but strong contender for worst movie of 2008" Empire, 2008"A tasteless, witless, mindlessly perfunctory bloodbath that has the discourtesy to take itself seriously." Scott Tobias, 2007"An orgy of mindless violence" Austin Chronicle, 2007"A dull actioner that looks like a bad video game" Kirk Honeycutt, 2007"Noisy, badly shot rubbish" Mark Kermode - BBC
