Trivia
The real-life Chris Kyle was interviewed by Conan O'Brien just two days before he died.

The film was released a month before Eddie Ray Routh's trial for the real Chris Kyle's murder. Routh plead not guilty by reason of insanity. On February 24, 2015, Routh was found guilty of capital murder in Stephenville, TX (the jury did not buy his insanity defense) where he is sentenced to life imprisonment without parole - the prosecutors chose not to pursue the death penalty (the State of Texas is the death penalty capital in the United States).

Having gained 40 pounds of muscle for this role, Bradley Cooper had to immediately slim down after filming wrapped in order to star in a Broadway production of The Elephant Man, in which he plays a physically deformed man.

Goofs
Chris Kyle is shown joining the SEALs after the 1998 US embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania, and subsequently gives his age as 30 years old during training. However, the end of the film shows his birth year as 1974, which would have made him around 24 during his training.

After nursing the baby, Taya zips up her sweatshirt. The camera then switches to Chris holding the baby. When the camera switches back to Taya, her sweatshirt is unzipped again.

In the bar where Chris meets his wife, Fireball Whiskey is on the bar. Fireball Whiskey didn't hit the bar scene until 2011 or 2012 - at least not where it would hold a spot in the mix of bottles that were poured regularly.

Q
What are the controversies surrounding Chris Kyle?
A
It has been a persistent rumour that Chris Kyle went to New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and shot looters. However, fellow SEAL Brandon Webb states this story came from a discussion they had concerning rumours of special forces soldiers doing so, Kyle himself made no claim to have participated. Chris Kyle did claim to have killed two men who tried to carjack him in Texas but this has never been confirmed or disproved. Kyle was sued by actor/wrestler Jesse Ventura in 2012 after claiming in his autobiography that they got into a drunken fight at a SEAL/UDT reunion in 2006. According to Kyle, Ventura (who served in the UDT/SEALs during the Vietnam era) was voicing his disapproval of the war in Iraq and allegedly said to Kyle that the SEALs deserved to 'lose a few' men in the conflict. Ventura denied ever saying such a thing and would be later be awarded $1.2 million in damages by a court after Kyle's death.
Q
What is the significance of Kyle noticing the mark on the man's elbow at dinner?
A
The mark (callus) suggests that he has been resting for long periods on his elbows, as though he had been using a sniper rifle, making Kyle suspect he is an insurgent.
