Trivia
This was the first of only three John Wayne films (the others being Cahill U.S. Marshal (1973) and McQ (1974)) to receive AA certificates by the UK censor, meaning that they could only be seen by persons 14 and over. All other Wayne movies were rated 'A' (PG) or under.

Cinema Center Films (CCF) also produced The Boys in the Band (1970), a film which examined gay men, the year before "Big Jake," a subject matter which would not have been palatable, for a business partner, to John Wayne, had he known about it.

The dog was trained by the Weatherwax Kennels and was one of Lassie's children, but was not portrayed by Lassie himself. You can see the black hair coloring fading in the scene where Big Jake first meets Sam Sharpnose.

Goofs
The windshield glass in the first automobile disappears during the close-up shots.

When Big Jake shoots the wounded bandit from the shower cabin, the guy growls in pain, drops his pistol and falls backwards, but there is not one visible wound or even a drop of blood on his body, likely because the squib or squibs did not blow on cue.

The guy that helps Hank bring in the trunk at the train station is later seen dancing in the saloon at Escondero, wearing the same clothes.
