After completing Dead End (2003), director Jean-Baptiste Andrea spent three futile years trying to get various other film projects off the ground. Big Nothing (2006) was born out of his frustration from this period.
Although this is set in a small Oregon town, it was actually filmed on the Isle of Man and Wales, with some exterior scenes shot in British Columbia, Canada, including the first scenes with David Schwimmer, which were shot in Squamish.
When Charlie goes to his new job for "Sentel Call Center" with his car, he drops his keys and food package. His keys sink into a puddle, but the pocket does not. However, on the screen we see that Charlie picks up both of them from the puddle, totally wet.
Detective Wood brings home a bag of money thinking that the bag is filled with stuffed animals. Stuffed animals are very light, whereas large quantities of money are very heavy. Anyone whose job it is to observe things would notice something was wrong before getting home.
