The desert scenes where the majority of the locations were shot appear to be hot and arid, when in fact filming was done in mid and late March when it was still winter and the temperate during the day seldom rose above 60 F degrees in the sun, with wind chills making the outdoor temperature even lower. The cast, including the three female leads, spent most of the time between takes literally shivering under heavy winter coats that the wardrobe department brought along for just that.
This film stars, amongst others, Lucy Lawless, Renée O'Connor, Kevin Sorbo and Michael Hurst - the principal actors starring in Xena: Warrior Princess (1995) and Hercules: The Legendary Journeys (1995).
At the end of the movie Trixie is holding a samurai sword and she calls it 'naginata'. Naginata is actually something more like a spear, while samurai sword is called Katana.
Trixie's eye makeup keeps changing color. It is usually a shiny, smoky gray but during the entirety of the desert sequences (which take place on the same day), the color switches. Colors include: dusty pink, light gray, dark gray, gray with beige and an almost black color. The only consistency is her black eyeliner.
Camero has dark blond hair throughout the film except for one brief shot when her hair is dark black when she is about to drop a cigarette lighter to set Trixie on fire. It was an insert shot filmed months after production ended when America Olivio dyed her hair for a different film role that she took immediately after filming on this picture ended.
What are the differences between the R-Rated Version and the Unrated Version?
A
In March the movie was released on DVD in the US. The US-DVD only features the promotionally effective "Unrated" version of the movie. The version shown in theatres was about three minutes shorter and rated "R" by the MPAA. Although the R-Rated version has not been released in the USA on DVD it has been released in other countries, e.g. in Germany. The differences between the two versions are not to be found in the brutal scenes, instead there are some plot extensions and some scenes that probably had to be removed due to the sexual content which might have cost the movie the R-Rating in theatres. A detailed comparison between both versions with pictures can be found here.
