The film was originally written in English, then translated into Mandarin Chinese, and then re-translated from the English original into Cantonese, before the film was shot, and then, after editing, the dialogue had to be translated back into English for the addition of the English subtitles.

The filmmakers were inspired by many of the films of auteur Kar Wai Wong, most specifically his film In the Mood for Love (2000).

Many of the people involved with the film are members of the Immediate Theatre Company, and alumni of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
