What happened to the Clerks animated movie? Why don't they bring back the TV show?

According to Kevin Smith, Miramax owns the rights to the animated series characters. After the Weinsteins left Miramax and started their own company, Kevin Smith could not take the rights with him. So, sadly, we may never see anything with the animated characters again.However Kevin smith has stated in his podcast that Miramax are talking about picking up the show again.
