The cross worn by the character of John Mullens was previously worn by Kevin Costner in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991)

According to executive producer Gil Grant, the series was intended to be set about 1350 during the middle of Edward the Third's reign. Since the series wasn't intended to be completely accurate and the production designer was concerned with criticism over anachronisms creeping into the set design, the producers opted to use a generic medieval time period instead.

Stars Nigel Terry and Cherie Lunghi also appeared together on screen in Excalibur (1981) as King Arthur and his queen Guenevere.
