Trivia
Robert Downey Jr. was set to play Zeke Jackson (a "former Union army gunslinger"), but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. Within the month, the character was then re-named Jake Lonergan, re-written to be an outlaw, and Downey, Jr. was replaced with Daniel Craig.

The fabric used to make Ella's dress had originally been considered for Hailee Steinfeld's wardrobe in True Grit (2010) but had been deemed too feminine for that movie.

As with most films distributed by Universal Pictures, there is a brief promo after the end credits for Universal Studios. However, the promo used at the end of this movie uses the decidedly 1960s era ad to promote the Universal Studios back lot tour in Hollywood, California. This promo was replaced in 1990 when Universal Studios opened a second location in Orlando, Florida and changed its logo.

Goofs
The three cowboys Lonergan meets after first waking up appear very dirty and sweaty, and all of their equipment is old and used. The cowboy hat he later takes from one of them is obviously new, as it doesn't appear dirty and doesn't have a sweat salt stain where it would rest on one's head.

Although Ella explicitly states that the aliens are blinded by bright light and avoid it, they later appear to have no problem fighting in full daylight nor do they appear to be inconvenienced in any way by it.

Quotes
Percy Dolarhyde: [to Jake] You're in trouble now. You're gonna burn. My pa is coming for me. He learned how to kill a man good and slow in the war. I am going to watch you suffer for a long, long, long time. You thought that cheap shot in the pecker hurt?

Woodrow Dolarhyde: [shouts while turning his horse around] They're coming back! They're coming back!

Meacham: Whether you end up in Heaven or Hell isn't God's plan, it's your own. You just have to remember what it is.

Q
What is 'Cowboys & Aliens' about?
A
Lone amnesic cowboy Jake Lonergan (Daniel Craig) and the mysterious bracelet on his left wrist may be the Old West town of Absolution's only hope to fight off aliens who are abducting humans in preparation for taking over the Earth, that is, if powerful cattleman Colonel Woodrow Dolarhyde (Harrison Ford), local Sheriff John Taggart (Keith Carradine), a group of ruthless outlaws, a tribe of Apache warriors, and a mysterious woman named Ella Swenson (Olivia Wilde) don't kill Jake and each other first.
Q
What are the differences between the Theatrical Version and the Extended Version?
A
Although there is not a lot of new dialog; the Dolarhydes, mostly Percy, come across a lot nicer. In total the Extended Version runs approx. 17 minutes longer than the Theatrical Version and a very detailed comparison between both versions with pictures can be found here.
Q
Is "Cowboys & Aliens" based on a book?
A
Cowboys & Aliens is based on a 2006 graphic novel created by comic book publisher and former senior executive vice president for Marvel Comics Scott Mitchell Rosenberg. The text was written by American graphic novelists Fred Van Lente and Andrew Foley with artwork by Dennis Calero and Luciano Lima. The graphic novel was adapted for the screen by Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, Damon Linelof, Mark Fergus, and Hawk Ostby based on a screen story by Fergus and Ostby along with Steve Oedekerk.
