The 2001-2 series saw the return of four characters from the show's prior run (1964-88). These were Jill Harvey, Adam Chance, Doris Luke and Sarah-Jane Harvey. The first three were reprised by original actors Jane Rossington, Tony Adams and Kathy Staff, whilst the last - Jill's daughter - was previously only seen as a child. The makers of the 2003 series were intending to bring back Chance, but the show was cancelled before they could.

The former Midlands motel was now a four-star hotel. The address was shown to be: Crossroads Hotel, King's Oak, Heathbury, Warwickshire B95 5WP, tel 01632 960 008.

The five-month 2003 series was set one year on from the 2001-2 run. It closed with the revelation that the whole of that revamp had been dreamt by supermarket worker Angel Samson.
