The poster for Dr. Dolittle 3 was strongly considered for a theatrical release at one point. Some theaters still have the the movie poster on display in their lobbies, such as the Holiday Cinemas 10 in Meriden Connecticut.
Originally intended to be released theatrically. It was even advertised as being released to theaters, until it was changed to Direct to Video shortly before release.
Eddie Murphy isen't in this movie because contrary to popular believe, he had enough sense to turn down this "yet-another-un-needed-sequel". Same goes for "Daddy Day Camp," the sequel to "Daddy Day Care."
