Martin Jay Sadoff, the film's 3-D effects supervisor, is responsible for coming up with Jason's trademark hockey mask. Sadoff always kept a bag with him full of hockey gear on set because he was an avid hockey fan. While testing potential masks to use for Jason, he pulled out a Detroit Red Wings goalie mask for the test. Director Steve Miner loved the look and, after making some modifications to the mask, decided to use it in the film.

Former trapeze artist, Richard Brooker, was chosen to play Jason simply because Steve Miner needed a big man for the role. Being tall, at 6'3", but not that bulky, the slim and toned Brooker wore foam padding under his clothes, and did all of his own stunts.

Goofs
When Andy is cut in half by Jason, blood spurts everywhere yet when his girlfriend gets out of the shower and walks past the spot she doesn't notice (or tread in) the floor covered in blood. Even though Andy's bisected body is hanging over her head she doesn't notice until a few small drops of blood drip down, despite the massive wound.

When the kids stop for the police cars who rush by, we get to look out the back window of the car. You can see a car and a road sign there. These two weren't there when they pulled over.

Q
Why does Jason's appearance drastically changed from Part 2 to Part 3? He no longer has long hair or a beard, and it is supposed to be the next day.
A
We never actually see Jason in Part 2 without the sack on his head except when he bursts through the window. The end sequence with Ginny is assumed by some to be a dream or hallucination, and therefore it was Ginny's imagination. However, this ignores the fact that at the end her boyfriend is missing, suggesting the events were true and that he was killed by Jason but she is then saved by the arrival of the police. Simplest explanation is that Jason felt the need to change his appearance now that he was no longer wearing his sack. In his crazed mind he may have thought he was making himself less noticeable.
Q
What are the differences between the British BBFC 18 VHS and the Uncut Version?
A
The old British BBFC 18 VHS misses out three short gore scenes, approx. 3 seconds. All cuts were waived for the DVD release. A detailed comparison between both versions can be found here.
