In an attempt at Method acting, Lawrence Monoson decided that since his character, Ted, is smoking pot when he dies, he would try smoking pot for real in order to film the scene. However, he soon found that in his intoxicated state, it was too difficult to fully concentrate on filming.

Joseph Zito based Rob's death scene - in which he screams "He's killing me!" as Jason attacks him - on a newspaper article he had read about a murder victim in New York City, who begged his attacker to stop stabbing him. Zito had intended the sequence to be particularly gut-wrenching, as Rob had been established as a capable opponent for Jason. Upon viewing screenings of the film, however, Zito realized that the way in which the scene was filmed made Rob seem pathetic and impotent rather than making Jason appear merciless, and often caused audiences to burst out laughing.

Goofs
Pamela Voorhees' tombstone reads "1930-1979". But Part I shows her death taking place on Friday, June 13th, and June 13 1979 was a Wednesday. (The year of her death should be 1980, as the first film was released in that year, and June 13th was indeed a Friday that year.)

Tommy isn't wearing glasses while he is playing his computer game, so it can be assume that he needs them for distance. However, in the scene were he is watching Paul and Sam he doesn't have his glasses on but he can still see what is going on.

When Jason chases Trish to the neighbors house she jumps over Tina's body and stares at Jason. You can clearly see the red marks on the cheek part of the hockey mask, but when he chases her upstairs before she breaks out the window you can see the marks are gone.

Jimmy: He thinks that's funny. He thinks that's a funny thing he's doing.

Doctor: [to Trish] Under extreme duress, people are capable of extraordinary behavior. That's what happened when your brother violently attacked the killer. At that moment, it was perfectly normal for him to act to protect himself.
