Trivia
In the beginning of the film a reporter asks "Can a soufflé rise twice?" This was a famous quote by the Australian Labor Prime Minister, Paul Keating about the opposition politician Andrew Peacock who was making a second attempt to gain the leadership of the Liberal Party in the 1980s.

The production carefully placed background actors in the audience scenes to resemble actual audience members in convention and town-hall scenes in order to enhance the cutting-in of newscast footage.

Woody Harrelson previously had a cameo in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, also directed by Jay Roach.

Goofs
In a bedroom scene, Julianne Moore's Sarah Palin is wearing the third jersey of the National Hockey League's Colorado Avalanche. This jersey was officially announced more than a year later on November 12, 2009 making it an anachronism for her character to be wearing it in 2008 during the Presidential campaign.

In a scene where Ed Harris' character, John McCain, is woken up in the middle of the night, it is clear that his arms are stretched out above his head. This is not possible, as due to the years of physical abuse/torture John McCain suffered as a POW, he is unable to raise both of his arms above his head.

When McCain is sitting on the couch talking to his advisor, it can be seen that the bottom button on his shirt is unbuttoned. After cutting away and then back to McCain, all of his buttons are done.
