Slimer
Did you know?
Trivia
Probably by interesting coincidence, the name "Zuul" corresponds to "Zuhl", an alien being George Adamski claimed to have met in his 1955 book "Inside the Space Ships".

Eddie Murphy was to have originally played Winston but did Beverly Hills Cop (1984) instead. That movie ended up beating this one as the year's highest grossing film.

On the set, Dan Aykroyd referred to the "Slimer" ghost as the ghost of John Belushi.

Goofs
Ray quotes a Bible verse, which he says is Revelation 7:12. In fact, it is Revelation 6:12. Also, Ray forgets some words, while Winston adds words that aren't present in the verses.

When the Ghost Busters first encounter Slimer on the 12th floor, the proton beam burns on the wall appear before the proton blast has even reached them.

When Winston and Ray are in the car talking about the Bible verse, Winston is in the driver's seat. When they pull up to the HQ after the explosion, Ray gets out of the driver's seat. (They may have stopped and switched seats between the scenes.)

Dr. Peter Venkman: Generally you don't see that kind of behavior in a major appliance.

Dr. Peter Venkman: Maybe now you'll never slime a guy with a positron collider, huh?

Q
Why did Gozer become Mr. Stay Puft?
A
Gozer gave the Ghostbusters a choice of the form Gozer will become as "The Destroyer". If The Ghostbusters thought and had chosen for example: The Joker from Batman, Gozer would reappear in that form to destroy them. The Ghostbusters had to clear their minds and not think of anything or anyone that would appear and destroy them. But Ray had thought of the Mr. Stay Puft Marshmellow Man and Gozer reappeared as the form chosen by Ray, which Ray believed couldn't possibly destroy them, as kids would toast marshmellows at camp fires and The Ghostbusters used their proton packs to zap at Mr. Stay Puft/Gozer and set Mr. Stay Puft/Gozer on fire.
Q
What is slime?
A
The slime that was found in the library and other places that were haunted by ghosts is described as "ectoplasmic residue," a substance that is supposed to exist on the etheric (or spiritual) plane and can remain behind in the wake of a spiritual, i.e., ghostly, manifestation.
Q
What is 'Ghostbusters' about?
A
When three parapsychologists -- Doctors Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), and Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis) -- are fired from their positions at New York's Columbia University, they decide to set up shop together and become 'ghostbusters' dedicated to trapping ghosts and other nasty spirits. Unfortunately, they're mostly considered to be frauds, until an ancient Sumerian god, Gozer the Gozerian, takes up residence in the high-rise apartment of Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver), and it seems that only the Ghostbusters can save the Big Apple.
