For the film's soundtrack, director and composer John Carpenter called upon various rock musicans to help enhance his own score. They include members of Anthrax, Steve Vai, Guns N' Roses' guitarists Buckethead and Robin Finck and Elliot Easton (formerly of The Cars).
During the martian attack on the jail, "Akooshay" is seen being grabbed from behind and stabbed in a medium shot. In the subsequent wide shot, this can be seen happening again in the background.
When Ballard breaks free from Williams' grip, the knife at her throat can clearly be seen to bend with her neck rather than slice a gaping wound in it.
Lieutenant Ballard says that blowing up the nuclear power plant will cause an explosion with a blast radius of up to two miles. However, in the very wide shot of the explosion, the visible curvature of Mars suggests that the resulting blast radius is no less than several hundred miles wide.
