Co-producer and screenwriter Michael Latimer was married to Sheena Bancks, daughter of Ginger Meggs creator Jim Bancks. Michael & Sheena's daughter Miranda Latimer, who was cast as Polly, is now the managing director of Jimera Pty. Ltd., which produces the Ginger Meggs comic strip.

As filming wrapped, the child cast members asked dialogue coach James Kemsley to draw a Ginger Meggs cartoon for them to give to the Latimer family as a thank-you present. The Latimers were so impressed with the cartoon that they gave Kemsley the job of writing and drawing the comic strip after Lloyd Piper died in 1984.
