Trivia
This film neglects to mention any of Jean Harlow's actual films or even the fact that she was under contract to MGM. None of her real-life co-stars is named or depicted in the film, and her first and third marriages are not mentioned. She is said to have died from pneumonia, but it was actually uremic poisoning which killed her at age 26. The only characters given their real names are Harlow herself, her husband Paul Bern, her agent Arthur Landau and her mother and stepfather. The film's claim that Bern committed suicide because he was impotent has been widely questioned - some, such as the director Henry Hathaway (who was a close friend of Bern's), have suggested that he was murdered by gangsters, and that the studio covered this up to avoid bad publicity.

This film appeared the year after Carroll Baker had played "Rina Marlowe", a Harlow-type Hollywood sex siren, in "The Carpetbaggers", which was also produced by Joseph E. Levine. Critics laughingly suggested that, in a few years' time, Levine might well produce a biopic called "Baker"; in fact, it was only another year before he produced "The Oscar", in which Jean Hale, made up to look like Carroll Baker, played a Hollywood actress called "Cheryl Barker".

Burt Bacharach and Hal David wrote two songs for the picture, "Harlow" and "Say Goodbye," but they weren't used.
