This was apparently a pilot for an NBC sitcom. The network envisioned stand-up comedian Joel Hodgson as one of the stars of the proposed series. Hodgson turned the offer down.
The cast is comprised of many former child stars. Tony Dow from Leave It to Beaver (1957) plays the principal. 'Angela Cartwright (I)' from Make Room for Daddy (1953) and Lost in Space (1965) plays a teacher, as does Dwayne Hickman from The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis (1959), and the school janitor is played by David Nelson, former star of The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet (1952).
In a scene where Beth tells Jay-Jay that she just wants to be friends, Jay-Jay replies, "Like Wally and Lumpy... I'll pass." Tony Dow and Frank Bank, who played Wally and Lumpy in Leave It to Beaver (1957), also appear in the film.
The Trans Am switches from a 1979-81 model to a base model 1973 Firebird when it enters the construction area and in a public park staircase (note the rear quarter panel, absence of a front fender vent, and the rear bumper (after the vehicle is crashed).
