Trivia
When Sonny is drawing the picture of the bridge for Spooner, there is a piece of paper to the left with computer code on it. The code is that of a Renderman shader; a procedural description of a surface used to describe the robots' appearance during rendering.

According to the newscast, Dr. Alfred Lanning was born in 1971 and was 64 when he was murdered. Interesting enough, he was the same age at the time as the actor who played him, James Cromwell.

Goofs
(at around 18 mins) Spooner pushes the delivery robot aside without even seeing if the package was for him. The door he opens (to the street) has a glass window. Later in the movie, he opens a fully wooden door for Calvin. It suggests that Spooner isn't the only tenant in the building.

When Spooner is driving back into town on his motorcycle, there are several shots that show that the cars on the road have conventional tires rather than the ball type wheels that they're supposed to have. These cars have the ball wheel props added to their fenders, but the standard tires remain visible underneath.

Sonny tries to hide in a perfectly-spaced array of 1,000 robots. Apparently, he can enter random spots in the array without affecting the regular spacing, even though the other robots do not move. However, we do not see the array of robots until after Spooner and Calvin arrive, so it is possible that one or more robots had to move, but this was not shown on screen.

Q
How is it that Lanning hadn't been to his house in weeks but his cat was still alive?
A
Viewers have suggested several possibilities: (1) there was an automatic feeder, (2) there was a doggy/cat door that allowed the cat to come and go to find his own food and do his duty, and (3) being the future, there was a robot who made sure that the cat was fed and his litter box cleaned.
Q
What does 'VIKI' stand for?
A
Virtual Interactive Kinetic Intelligence
Q
Is "I, Robot" based on a book?
A
Sort of. This movie is based on the robot stories of Isaac Asimov [1920-1992]. It borrows several characters (notably Dr Alfred Lanning and Dr Susan Calvin, plot points and concepts, the most important of them being the Three Laws of Robotics), but it doesn't directly follow any of Asimov's novels or short stories, and the main character, Chicago Police Detective Del Spooner, was created specifically for this movie and isn't an Asimov character. I, Robot 2 is in production, but no release date has been set.
