Due to the change in cast and over budgeting the film took nearly 4 years in the making.

Divya Bharti was originally doing the part of Kaajal and shot several scenes. Due to her death she was replaced by Juhi Chawla.

Dimple Kapadia's reason for leaving the role of Gayatri Devi was because she was not comfortable playing a mother-in-law to Juhi Chawla who was a few years younger than her. She signed the film expecting to play the mother-in-law of Divya Bharti who died later during the shooting of the film.
