Shinji Ogawa was originally cast as Gilbert F. Altstein, but due to poor health he had to back out and was replaced with Banjo Ginga.

Yasuhiro Nightow originally started out the story as a a vampire hunting story in a contemporary city. The final product turned out more humorous and fantastic, distinctly influenced by Nightow's Trigun (1998) series.
