Trivia
The film was based on the fake trailer featured before Robert Rodriguez's double feature for Grindhouse (2007) and Planet Terror (2007), which was co-produced by Quentin Tarantino, who is also a producer on this film.

This marks the first time Tom Savini's character doesn't die in a Robert Rodriguez film.

This film was made because of the popularity of a fake trailer for a non-existent "Machete" film that was featured in the theatrical version of Grindhouse (2007), along with other fake trailers and advertisements featured in the film. "Thanksgiving" is the other popular fake trailer included in the film and was directed by Eli Roth and it is in development to be made into a full-length film.

Goofs
When Machete's army attacks the compound, a rocket is fired at the front gate, then at a guard tower. However, the tower is at too high of an angle to have been hit by a rocket fired straight ahead.

In Spanish, the singular form of Federales is Federal, not Federale as constantly seen in the movie. Although this is a common Anglo misconception, it is presented on Machete's official personnel files which would never make such a mistake.

Even though Machete Cortez falls on Sartana's BMW car's front hood after the house explosion, it's later seen in perfect condition.

Q
A Note Regarding Spoilers
A
The following FAQ entries may contain spoilers. Only the biggest ones (if any) will be covered with spoiler tags. Spoiler tags have been used sparingly in order to make the page more readable.
Q
How much sex, violence, and profanity are in this movie?
A
For detailed information about the amounts and types of (a) sex and nudity, (b) violence and gore, (c) profanity, (d) alcohol, drugs, and smoking, and (e) frightening and intense scenes in this movie, consult the IMDb Parents Guide for this movie. The Parents Guide for Machete can be found here.
Q
Is this based on the fake trailer from Grindhouse?
A
Technically yes. Rodriguez had actually conceived this film back before he had written Desperado. The trailer was the most popular of all of the Grindhouse fake trailers and drew a mass following. Rodriguez was so inspired by this that he took the original script he wrote in 1993 and decided to adapt it into a feature film. He has stated in interviews that about 99% of the footage from the fake trailer will be used in the feature film and the story line will not change but be added on to, so new characters (Seagal, Alba, DeNiro, and Lohan) could be involved.
