Trivia
Eric Stoltz spent so much time under heavy makeup that when he arrived for the post production party he had to present I.D. to security to prove that he was Eric Stoltz. Also, when he got there he had to introduce himself to some of the cast and crew because many of them didn't know what he really looked like.

According to Peter Bogdanovich, on Sunday, 14 March 2004, in a talk at the Cleveland Public Library (Ohio), he has secured the rights for the Bruce Springsteen songs and the print will be re-released with the music chosen the first time around. There was a possible snag when the studio told Bogdanovich that the negative of the film had been lost - they only had positive prints - but the negative hadn't really been lost - Bogdanovich had removed it from the studio some years prior. This has been released on DVD as the Director's Cut version.

Goofs
When Cher opens her beer can in the camping scene near the beginning of the movie, the can has a stay tab. These were not used on cans until the 80s. Cans prior to then used pull tabs.

When Laura Dern is leaving the camp (right before her parents arrive) you can clearly hear one of the children that she hugs refer to her as Laura instead of Diana, her character name.

In reality, Rocky's body was donated to the University of California, he was not buried in a cemetery as being shown at the end of the movie.

Q
What are the differences between the Theatrical Version and the Director's Cut?
A
The directors cut was released in 2004. Apart from a live performance of the song "Little Egypt" by Cher, it also contains the funeral of Red, a friend of the family. So this raises the question, whether the director's cut is worth it or not, if there's nothing more than those scenes. The answer: it definitely is, although one could go without those additional scenes. The main reason that speaks for it is another one. In 1985 Bogdanovich decided to take songs by Bruce Springsteen. On the one hand because he thought they captured the zeitgeist of this period really well; and on the other hand because the real Rocky was a big fan of Springsteen. But due to an argument between Universal Pictures and Springsteen's Label, Columbia Records, the songs were removed from the movie and replaced by songs of Bob Seger. Springsteen himself took a stand for reinserting the songs into the director's cut. So now you can hear "Badlands", "Thunder Road", "Promised Land" and "Born in the USA" by the Boss. A detailed comparison between both versions with pictures can be found here.
