Trivia
As the students enter the School of Scaring building, they all touch the front paw of the statue in front of the building. This is a reference to a tradition at Harvard University where students touch the left foot of the statue of John Harvard for good luck. As a result, the foot of the statue of Harvard is shiny and polished down. The animators included that onto the statue in the movie as well.

This along with Cars 2 (2011) are the only Pixar films not nominated for Best Animated Feature at the Oscars. What these two films also have in common is that both of their predecessors, Monsters Inc. (2001) and Cars (2007) are the only Pixar films not to win. They lost to Shrek (2001) and Happy Feet (2007) respectively.

Goofs
When Mike and Sully are first shown their room at the frat house, the light switch is under the top bunk bed. In subsequent shots it has moved closer to the door and is no longer directly under the bed.

The textbook chapter on the Cobra Hiss explains the eyes need to be opened to 110% capacity, but the diagram wrongly depicts this as an angle with the eyes open at 110 degrees.

In the opening scene, when Mrs. Graves is counting students, she counts to 19 and then notices that Mike is missing, which means that there are 20 students in the class. If this were the case, he wouldn't have to pair up with the teacher.

Q
If adult screams can yield so much energy, why doesn't Monsters Inc. try to harvest screams from adults during an energy crisis?
A
Probably because they can't risk exposing the Monster world to humans. The reason why they scare children is because it generates sufficient energy. When children tell their parents about seeing monsters in their bedroom, the parents simply attribute this to children's imagination. However, scaring adults with high frequency will lead to investigations of the phenomenon, which will almost certainly lead to the humans discovering the Monster world. Mike and Sulley only did it because they had no choice; there was no other door back to Monster's University and staying in the human world any longer would only increase the risk of them getting caught. Also, if children are considered to be toxic and potentially dangerous, then adults, who are much faster and aggressive, would be considered an unacceptable biohazard.
Q
In the first movie, Mike tells Sully, "You've been jealous of my good looks since the fourth grade." How is that possible if they didn't meet until college?
A
The directors were aware of that line, and they tried out several scenes in which Mike and Sully first met in grade school, and then reunited in college. Everything they tried just distracted from the story they were trying to tell. So, on the advice of studio head John Lasseter, they dropped any attempt at explanation, and hoped that viewers wouldn't remember that line, or they would assume that Mike was speaking metaphorically (You've been jealous of my good looks for a long time). In a recent interview, the creators of Monsters University stated that "... since the fourth grade" is a typical phrase used by Monsters. The joke in this case would be that Mike is saying that Sulley has been jealous of his looks for a long time.
