The second time Steve Martin plays a dentist. The first time was his role in "Little Shop of Horrors" as Orin Scrivello, albeit that character was far more "disturbed" than Frank Sangster.
Steve Martin and Scott Caan did not get along during filming due to Caan's reckless behavior toward a stunt person in a scene in which his character smashes a beer bottle over the head of a man in a bar.
Frank walks into a bar and orders Bourbon, the bartender offers him Four Roses, Jim (Beam) Black, V.O., and "Seagram". Three of the 4 are Bourbon. V.O., which is what the bartender pours, is not a Bourbon but a Canadian Whisky.
When the DEA agent arrives at Frank's office, he explains he is from the Drug Enforcement Agency, despite the fact that DEA stands for Drug Enforcement Administration.
Frank: [Pulling his own teeth to fake his death]
Strange as it may seem, it didn't hurt like I thought it would. In fact, with each tooth I pulled, I felt a little better... a little less trapped... a little more free. Until I felt so free that what I had to do didn't seem so bad at all.
Frank: [Discovering he's been framed for his brother's murder]
Suddenly, there I was... seeing it all for the first time. Oh, she'd set me up, all right. Not just for Duane's murder. She'd gotten me for Harlan's too. My teeth marks were all over the body.
Frank: A person can lose a lot of things. He can lose his soul. He can lose his life. But I've always said the worst thing a man can lose is his teeth. It's true, I should know.
