While it could be coincidence the three works that Seligman references as his encounters with the erotic, the Decameron, The Canterbury Tales, and 1000 Nights are all films in Pasolini's trilogy of life. The Trilogy of Life was noteworthy for its attention to sexuality.

The characters blamed the pistol not firing because Joe forgot to cock the gun, but the Walther PPK is a double-action pistol that does not require cocking/racking to fire. In fact, you can see the hammer strike when she pulled the trigger.

At the beginning of the final chapter, the Molotov cocktail Joe throws at the car envelops the entire vehicle. When the shot cuts to Joe walking away, the car behind her is only partially aflame. The scene ends with a closeup of the car burning exactly as it was in the first shot.
