The film was shot using a Canon 5D Mark II DSLR Camera. To generate the 3D effects, the camera was mounted on a special rig that would take one shot, then slide to a slightly different viewpoint to take another shot.
During the last few weeks leading up to the film's release, Laika sent 49 packages to 49 people (including Neil Gaiman and Kevin Smith). Each package consisted of a wooden crate from "Blithe Hollow" full of "grave dirt" which recipients had to dig through to unearth a coffin. Inside the coffin was one of the seven cursed zombies, complete with background information and name.
When Norman and his classmates are rehearsing for the school play in the beginning of the movie, Norman is holding a script when he begins to read his part. However, after he is interrupted, he is no longer holding a script.
When Norman and company are driving away from the zombies and cause Norman's father to crash, the police officer crashes into the Babcocks' car from the direction the van has just headed rather than where it has just come from.
Aggie: Aggie... My name was Aggie... I - I remember... My mommy brought me here once. We sat under the tree and she told me stories. They all had happy endings. Then those horrible men came and took me away and I never saw her again!
