Only two episodes, plus the Christmas at Pee Wee's Playhouse (1988), were created for the third season, due to both Paul Reubens working on Big Top Pee-wee (1988) and production being halted by the strike caused by the Writers Guild of America in 1988. John Paragon wrote both episodes for this season, and together with Reubens, wrote the Christmas special.

Where was Pee-wee's Playhouse filmed?

The first season was filmed in New York City. Seasons 2-5 were filmed in Los Angeles. * * To be precise the first season was shot in a former sweatshop that was cleaned out for the show. It was at 480 Broadway between Spring and Broome Streets, on the 3rd floor. We shot episodes 1-13, although I hear only ten of them aired. I didn't work on the episodes shot in California, but I heard it was shot out at Culver City, CA.
