AThere are two or three killers, depending on your count. Emma Spool kills Toomey, the boy in the basement and Lila Loomis. Mary accidentally kills the psychiatrist. Norman kills Emma Spool. A fourth killer (as opposed to a murderer) is the police officer who shoots Mary to death in the line of duty. The movie leaves room for ambiguity. Norman could have killed Toomey, even though he was fairly stable at that point. Lila could have killed the boy in the basement, especially since her disguise was already hidden there.
QWhy isn't Norman suspicious of Mary's name?
AMary calls herself "Mary Samuels," which should have tipped him off. Her aunt, Marion Crane, had used a similar alias ("Marie Samuels") when she checked into his motel over two decades earlier. We can only guess that he forgets or writes it off as a coincidence.
QIs this movie based on Robert Bloch's "Psycho II"?
ANo. Robert Bloch wrote Psycho II, a sequel to his novel Psycho, which had become Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 film of the same name. This film is a sequel to the Hitchcock movie, but is not based on Bloch's own sequel. Tom Holland wrote the original script.
